In the USA, technology assistance to entrepreneurs is available from a wide range of federal and state government agencies, universities, and non-profit organizations.
The following are examples of agencies which can help point technology entrepreneurs in the right direction.
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory
Berkeley Lab is a multidisciplinary national laboratory located in Berkeley, California on a hillside directly above the campus of the University of California at Berkeley. The site consists of 76 buildings located on 183 acres, which overlook both the campus and the San Francisco Bay. The Lab, which conducts unclassified research, employs about 4,300 people, including nearly 1,000 staff scientists, 1,000 undergraduate, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, and more than 1,500 technical and support personnel. In addition, each year the Lab hosts more than 2,000 participating guests. Canada-United States Trade Center
Centered at the University of Buffalo Department of Geography, the Canada-United States Trade Center (CUSTAC) has been in continuous operation since 1989, and has a mission to conduct applied and policy-oriented research on the evolving nature of Canada-US commercial relations with respect to trade, capital investment, border management, and regulatory conditions.
Business Services
In addition to providing various support services for research projects undertaken at UB and elsewhere within the Western New York Community, CUSTAC provides a variety of services for business executives and for private sector and government organizations and agencies in New York State and elsewhere. Such services include providing information from the Center's databases, distributing the findings of research projects carried out by the Center, assessing international marketing and investment strategies of businesses, providing referrals to private and public sector organizations, and promoting export-development activities within the local region.

California Clean Tech Open
Clean Tech Open is an organization of entrepreneurs, academics, investors and companies, working together to accelerate the development of clean technology startups through resources, education and support for clean technology entrepreneurs.
Among its activities are: >An annual business plan competition in six categories enewable Energy; Energy Efficiency; Smart Power; Air, Water & Waste; Transportation and Green Building. Winners receive a "Startup-in-a-Box"TM package said to be worth $100,000 in cash and services, donated by sponsors.
